What Basin is Right For Your Design?

When designing a bathroom you want to ensure that everything blends in together offering you an elegant and sophisticated space. You’ve probably paid careful attention to your bath or shower and now it’s time to find the perfect basin to complement the space.

The advantage with modern bathroom basins is that you don’t have to go with the full pedestal design that was the only choice years ago. There are semi pedestals and those that use bottle traps as a welcome alternative, helping you find the perfect basin to match your modern bathroom design.

Basin and Pedestal

Qube Basin and Pedestal

When it comes to basins for the bathroom there is some considerations that you need to think about, firstly is the size. A large basin in a small cloakroom will look out of place, as you can well imagine, you need to find a basin that maximises the bathroom space, doesn’t look out of place and compliments the space rather than destroying your design.

Then there is the shape. Modern bathroom basins come in a selection of shapes for you to choose from, making it even easier to find that perfect match that blends in with all your other fixtures and fittings.

The Different Styles

I have my favourites when it comes to the modern bathroom basins available and one of them is the Qube design, these basins are large and a welcome addition to a spacious bathroom is a stylish rectangular design.

Qube also took the compact cloakroom into consideration making the Qube Cloakroom basin which remains modern and stylish but on a much smaller scale. This medium sized basin is rectangular with straight edges and the tap fits to the side rather than the back, this helps you maximise the space especially when working with a rectangular cloakroom where space is very limited.

The Emma modern bathroom basins are stylish and elegant in a stunning semi circular design, perfect if you have chosen a rounded edged bath or a quadrant shower tray which already incorporates that stunning curve design.

The Mia Round is an ultra modern design suitable for medium to large bathrooms, these modern bathroom basins are rectangular with a rounded edge, enabling you to incorporate some curves into your modern design.

Lastly are the Pensato modern bathroom basins, these are very stylish basins that are suitable for any sized bathroom. The stylish rectangular design makes them a firm favourite in any bathroom design.

Decorate Your Bathroom Wall With Style

A bathroom wall doesn’t have to be a bland and blank space, you can add useful items that not only serve a convenience in the bathroom, but that add a design to your wall.

If you think of a bathroom that has nothing on the walls, it’s going to look like a blank canvass, boring with nothing to offer. Now you don’t want to add pretty pictures on the walls, but there are three ideas on ways you can add something that makes the wall stand out.

mirror cabinets

Feature Walls

With so many bathroom designs moving in the direction of luxury this year, feature walls are becoming very popular. A feature wall can be one bright wall surrounded by white walls, a decoration wall made of stone or a wall that has something unique and special, maybe something so out there, such as a water wall. Why not? It’s your bathroom.

Designer Radiators

Another great bathroom feature that is placed on a wall is designer radiators. Gone are those ugly white radiators that are mounted to the floor, the bathroom radiators are decorative and serve a great purpose.

From the warmth they provide to the fact you can place your towel over them to offer you a warm towel to wrap around you when you get out of the shower or bath, decorative radiators are a stylish and elegant addition to any bathroom design.

Mirror Cabinets with Lights

Another fantastic addition to a bathroom wall is the mirror cabinets with lights. These offer functionality, practicality, convenience and they are decorative. You can place your cabinet strategically so that it enhances the space by bouncing the natural light you get from the window into the bathroom space. This will help make the bathroom feel more spacious, light and bright.

These mirror cabinets with lights offer other great benefits. They offer a storage space for all your smaller bathroom items, immediately reducing the clutter in the bathroom. The biggest problem with many bathrooms today is not having enough storage.

They also offer extra light, now if you have a darker bathroom that doesn’t benefit from natural light, the mirror cabinets with lights offer that extra light that can make such a huge difference to the space. Never mind the lights ensure that you enjoy a clear reflection when getting ready in the morning and rushing to work. Having your toiletries, make up or shaving items in the cabinet and then having the mirror and lights right there to shave minutes off your time each morning.

The Different Bathroom Basins

There is such a wide selection of bathroom basins available on the market today and this can make the decision on which one to add to your bathroom a very difficult one. With such a wide selection to choose from, you should embrace the ability to find the one perfect match that will complement your bathroom space, rather than feel frustrated that there are just too many to choose from.

Years ago you had one choice, the traditional basin with full pedestal. Where was the excitement in that? Today there are counter top bathroom basins, inset designs, modern choices, glass options and wall hung styles. Designing a modern bathroom has never been easier.

The Selection

Counter top bathroom basins have become a very popular choice. These can be mounted on top of a counter or a slab, depending on how you have designed your bathroom. These basins are available in a choice of modern designs from the stunning rounds to square designs or even the bespoke designs.

These counter top bathroom basins blend in with any modern bathroom design and can make a great statement to the space, adding elegance, sophistication and style to any bathroom.

The glass basins are also a popular choice and a good selection for smaller bathrooms where you want to maximise light. These basins are made to the highest quality and are exceptionally durable, which means they will not break when you place hot water in them. These glass basins are available in a similar design to the counter top bathroom basins where they can be mounted on a counter top or slab to make a statement in your bathroom.

The biggest advantage with counter top bathroom basins is that you don’t have to have that full pedestal any more, the plumbing can be added in the cabinet below or you can use a bottle trap that is minimalistic and makes cleaning the bathroom easier than every before as there is nothing under the basin so you can just swipe it with the mop.

For a stylish modern bathroom design choose your counter top bathroom basins to match the shape of your bath or shower enclosure, if you have chosen square with straight edges, stick to the design. The same applies if you have chosen an oval bath or a shower enclosure with a curved edge, choose a round counter top bathroom basin to blend in with the space.

Top Tips On Finding The Perfect Mirror For Your Bathroom

A bathroom mirror can make an enormous impact on your bathroom, it reflects light, highlights sections of your bathroom you want on display and its a practical and convenient item.

With so many bathroom mirrors to choose from, finding that perfect mirror comes down to three things, positioning, size and style.

Positioning

You want your mirror to be placed where it best reflects light, now this may not be directly above the basin, but rather on the wall next to it. The best rule of thumb is to ascertain where the natural light flows, placing a mirror on the wall which gets the most natural light will immediately make your bathroom lighter.

If you have chosen a modern bathroom with luxury items, you may prefer highlighting a certain aspect of the bathroom, such as a feature wall. In this case placing your mirror on the opposite wall will enhance the area you are looking to display.

Size

The size of the bathroom mirror is as important on where you choose to position it. The size needs to fit in with the rest of your bathroom size, as you can imagine a large mirror on a small wall will look out of place. You need to measure the wall space available and then choose a mirror that complements the space the best, this may be a smaller bathroom mirror with shelves, which adds style to your design.

Styles

There is a wide selection of bathroom mirrors on the market from those with LED lights to the striking infinity designs. Bathroom mirrors with shelves are a practical choice especially if you need additional storage space. The shelves can be used to place bathroom items or scented candles to add that splash of colour.

The styles available for bathroom mirrors with shelves include square, round and even hexagonal shapes, each one designed to complement the bathroom design. Remember the best rule is if you have chosen a modern bathroom with square bathroom products that give off that straight edge, then a square mirror is best suited.

In some cases the hexagonal bathroom mirrors with shelves also work beautifully in these modern bathrooms, changing the shape slightly but still offering the straight edges that enhance the minimalistic design.

Choose your bathroom mirror with care, imagine it on the wall and how it will blend in with your bathroom design.

Often you’ll step into your bathroom and think it’s time for a change, bathroom designs change constantly. Take this year for example, it’s the year of luxury and spa inspired bathrooms.

Now unless you’re ready to do a complete bathroom make over, just a few changes and additions can update your bathroom and have it looking new again.

Remove any chipped tiles and replace them and re-grout any areas that need it. These can be done over a weekend and it’s not expensive to make the small changes needed to give your bathroom a new lease on life.

Upgrade Your Shower

Shower heads get old and outdated and if you have a traditional bathroom, taking a look at new shower sets may be the ideal solution. Choose ones that offer you the convenience while finished in stunning chrome to really give your bathroom a boost.

Add a Radiator

A radiator in the bathroom can make a huge impact on the space, especially during the colder winter months. The bathroom radiators that you get these days are modern in design, finished to perfection in gleaming chrome and they become the centre piece of your bathroom making a statement that the bathroom is an updated space.

Lighting

You don’t have to start replacing everything in the bathroom to give it an update, in fact you probably don’t want to spend too much money at all, which is why using bathroom cabinet lighting to add the additional light is so advantageous.

Bathroom cabinet lighting is available in a range of design choices to complement your new updated bathroom, give your bathroom the extra light it needs and enables you to shine the light where you need it most. You can hang these lights over your basin vanity to shine on your basin for getting ready early in the morning or have them shine over your bathroom mirror to help you get a brighter reflection when getting ready.

As you can see subtle changes can make a huge difference to your bathroom design and bring it up to date without costing a fortune.

Practical Bathroom Accessories a Must

When designing a bathroom you want the space to be practical. It should function with ease making your bathroom experience convenient and easy. There is one thing that so many people forget when budgeting for their bathroom and that is the smaller accessories which make the bathroom a practical and functional space.

When you choose square taps and products for your bathroom, you want to keep the design flowing, so why not keep the design the same with your accessories?

There are tumbler holders, soap dishes, towel rails, glass shelves and so much more to make your bathroom space practical and convenient.

For next to the toilet choose the toilet roll holder and toilet brush holder in it’s chrome finish with square design, absolutely perfect and makes your bathroom easy to enjoy.

Next to the basin you’ll want tumbler holders, a soap dish and a towel ring for your hand towel. This way you are assured your guests won’t use your bath towels to dry their hands when they visit your bathroom.

Looking at your shower or bath, you’ll want a towel rail to keep your towels hanging neatly and reduce the amount of mess strewn across the floor in the mornings and a robe hook adds convenience to an already well organized bathroom.

The cubarc bathroom accessories also come with stunning glass shelves which can be placed next to your basin to store all your bathroom items, reducing the clutter and keeping your bathroom neat and tidy.

The Mistakes People Make With Small Bathrooms

Small bathrooms have become very common these days, homes are being built on a smaller scale which in turn leaves you with a compact bathroom that you have the joy of designing.

Because your bathroom is small in scale doesn’t mean you can’t make it luxurious, but so many people try and fit too much into a small bathroom, leaving it cluttered, impractical and difficult to move.

Bath vs Shower

The biggest mistake I’ve seen in a small bathroom is placing a bath. Now while you can get small baths, you’re not going to be able to lie back and soak, if you lie back your knees stick out and if you straighten your legs your upper body is out of the water.

Small Bathroom

This is why so many people try and fit a full size bath into a small space. A practical solution? Probably not.

The best solution for small bathrooms is a shower, such as the quadrant shower that fits neatly in the corner in either a square or rectangular design with a stylish curved edge.

Shower Enclosures

The most impractical bathroom I have ever had the joy of using was one where the owner of the property put in a pivot shower door to the corner shower. The bathroom was tiny and when you opened the shower door it couldn’t open all the way, as you can imagine I had to get in and out of the shower squeezing sideways because the door would bang on the vanity unit every time you opened it.

For smaller bathrooms use sliding doors, walk in shower enclosures and bi-folding doors, these doors don’t swing open and don’t get stuck on other bathroom items making it almost impossible to get in and out of the shower.

Toilet Placement

Possibly one of the worst bathroom designs I ever encountered was where the toilet had been placed behind the bathroom door to make space for the bath and basin. The bathroom was really compact and there wasn’t much floor space, but there is nothing worse than not being able to open the bathroom door properly because the toilet is in the way.

Planning For Small Bathrooms

Draw a complete bathroom layout when designing small bathrooms, measure the space you have available and take time choosing all your bathroom products. Ensure any doors open with ease and that you don’t compromise on floor space, this way your bathroom can benefit from a spacious feel, even if it’s only a few square feet.

Back Lit Mirror Cabinets Ideal For Additional Bathroom Storage

The one thing that many bathrooms do not benefit from is additional storage. Often no matter what cupboards you place in your bathroom, you will always need more. The bottles of medicine, make up and shaving items can quickly build up and you need a good and stylish place to store them.

Back lit mirror cabinets not only offer you that additional storage, they are convenient and practical putting all your items together with your mirror and additional lighting, saving you time in the mornings when getting ready for work.

The back lit mirror cabinets are stylish in design, they ooze elegance and blend in beautifully with any bathroom design, both modern and traditional. Being available in a choice of sizes and styles, it’s easy to find the right back lit mirror cabinet for your bathroom.

Affordable Bathroom Designs

Designing a bathroom on a budget may seem difficult, but if you know what to look for and ways you can save costs, then you are able to complete your new bathroom within your budget.

Bathroom Suites

Bathroom suites is just one of the many ways you can save money when designing a new bathroom. These suites include a toilet and basin, sometimes a vanity. The advantage is that you pay one price for all the items and another advantage is that they all match and work well together. This can save you a lot of time and energy trying to source bathroom products to match the ones you have already purchased.

Shower Sets

If you’re putting a shower into your bathroom taking advantage of shower sets can save you a lot of money in the long run, in fact it’s easy to finish off your shower working to a tight budget.

Shower sets usually include a slide rail, taps and the shower head. What this means is again everything is matching and you don’t have to try and source a shower head to match your mixer taps or vice versa.

In fact shower sets are the convenient way to plan your shower, there is a wide selection available for you to choose from including those designed for the more traditional bathroom to those specifically designed for the ultra modern and luxurious bathrooms.

Other Suggestions

Once you have purchased your shower sets or your bathroom suite you will want to complete your bathroom still using some of your budget. A lick of paint goes a really long way and you should bear this in mind, in fact painting your bathroom can give your bathroom a completely new feel.

Choose light colours and natural tones, natural tones are a firm favourite this year that offers warmth and texture to what would be a very clinical bathroom.

Buy bathroom accessories that blend in with your basin taps and shower sets, chrome is often preferred because it’s a modern material with a great shine that enhances the bathroom space. Choose your accessories to match from your toilet roll holder to your towel rail and then ensure they are the same shape as your taps and shower sets, so square or circular in design.

Keeping the same design throughout your bathroom helps keep your bathroom looking elegant and stylish and you can buy all these items on a shoestring budget and still finish with a spectacular bathroom.
